To Till and to Tend: Becoming the Earth’s Stewards
The roots of the relationship between Judaism and the environment go very deep. We will explore Judaism’s thoughts and teachings on caring for nature and the environment. We will examine Judaism’s yearly cycle and the connection to the land and discuss these ancient concepts in light of today’s contemporary society, and the issues of climate change that we face daily.
Tuesday’s at Two (2 p.m.) Refreshments to be served each week.

“We Hold These (Jewish) Truths” The Key Promises of the U.S. Declaration of Independence at 250: Connections to the Jewish Experience
- December 9, 2025 EQUALITY (“all men are created equal”) Focus on the U.S. government addressing, through law and practice, Jewish efforts to live in the United States in response to pogroms and the Holocaust.
- January 13, 2026 UNALIENABLE RIGHTS (life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”) The U. S. supreme Court response to religious discrimination claims by Jews in employment and education settings. We also speak of the past and current Jewish members of the U.S. Supreme Court.
- February 10, 2026: SECURE THESE RIGHTS (“consent of the governed”) Discussion to center on Jews in electoral politics, including how Jews in Congress have used their power to address concerns facing American Jewry.
- March 10, 2026: RIGHT TO REVOLUTION (“it is the Right of the People … to institute a new Government”) The session will compare the promises of the U.S. Declaration of Independence with the Israel Declaration of Establishment (Independence) as well as the events leading up to that momentous declaration.

This 9 week course will take place at local parks where we combine walking in the beauty of nature and discussion of Jewish values and ethics using the themes from the 24 volumes and 9 Divisions of the .Misneh. Materials for study will be available in advance of the class.
